In the KJV Bible, John 15:1 states, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.” What exactly does that mean?

The definition of husbandman

To understand what the Bible is trying to teach us, we should first understand what “husbandman” means. By definition, a husbandman is a farmer; a cultivator or tiller of the ground; one who labors in tillage. In America, where men generally own the land on which they labor, the proprietor of a farm is also a laborer or husbandman; but the word includes the lessee and the owner.  The term can be found throughout the Bible.

How this applies to us Christians

What this means to Christians is that the Heavenly Father is the caretaker, protector, sustainer, trainer and educator of all of us. Looking at the phrase, “I am the true vine”, you can see how God, as the trainer, educator, husbandman, trains the branch of the vine. Like a farmer with his vines, God cares for, protects and sustains us.

John 15:5 goes on to state, “I am the vine, you are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.”

That is powerful!

At Christian Biz Connect, we take these words to heart. God is the husbandman; without him, we can do nothing. He supports us. In our daily lives, we should support each other, which is where the idea of our Christian business directory came from.  We need to support Christian businesses and our churches. We look forward to an exciting journey doing just that.
